Frequently asked questions

No. Ceramic coatings were developed in the early 2000s and have pretty much remained the same since. Relying on mostly water beading and easier to cleanse vehicles. Icon Rocklear was originally engineered in 2016 and has been advanced several times with the most recent formulation in 2023. Designed for protection, brilliance, and ease of cleaning.

The short answer is YES! ASTM D4587 Testing showed no change in appearance after 4000 hours of extreme UV and condensation exposure. Which is 20x the UV protection of a Ceramic Coatings.

Yes nothing protects better than Icon. Icon provides 300% more longevity in Salty/Humid environments than any other coating. ASTM B117 testing of Icon withstood 1000 hours with no visible change.
But (Premium Professional Ceramics) only withstood 350 hours.

Icon is in a category of its own. It’s the only corrective and protective coating on the market. With ceramic, you must strip the ceramic coating and then correct the paint again, which thins your clear coat. With Icon Rocklear we don’t wear down your paint; we apply the product, which corrects your paint and protects you in a one-step process that protects your paint for years!

In tests of tensile strength Icon Rocklear resists heavy damage when compared to any other coating on the market. A single layer provides up to 63 microns of protection. Bringing you over 35x thickness and 75x the strength when compared to other coatings in the world. Making Icon Rocklear the only coating to help with resistance to heavy damage such as real world perils, rock chips, & actual car key scratches.

No, Icon is only applied at licensed facilities that have undergone installation training. Icon Rocklear’s proprietary paint preparation and application method is a meticulous, top-secret, seven-part process done in a virtually contaminant-free, temperature-controlled, and humidity-controlled environment. This ensures the quality and longevity of the finish on your car or boat.

Installing Icon Rocklear will take one day and be ready for pickup the next day. It takes 30 days for the product to cure fully, but you can drive the vehicle during the curing process. Just don’t wash it for 7 days. This product cures no matter the temperature (-40° C or +40° C).

Yes, and that is the great thing about Icon. We can apply Icon over damaged paint, and it will cover swirls, scuffs, faded paint, and scratches and help thicken, strengthen, and protect a thinned clear coat. It is the only corrective and protective coating on the market.

Yes, and if you want the ultimate protection, this can always be added to your vehicle afterward.

Yes, Icon is body shop safe and can be painted over later.

Icon Rocklear is unequalled in its brilliance and clarity. In recent spectrometer testing, Icon Rocklear registered a 97% reflective quality over an 85° angle. This was over a five year old automotive painted surface. This has never been achieved by any other coating until now. Icon Rocklear’s brilliance is 30% greater than any Ceramic or Graphene coating can achieve even with multiple layers.

Yes, Icon is Over 50% more Impact Resistance than Ceramics. Lab tested using ASTM D-2794 tested Icon impact resistance at 120 in. lbs. Whereas (Premium Professional Ceramics) only tested at 80 in. lbs.

Icon Rocklear is the most depth efficient coating on the market today. Certified Icon Rocklear technicians can achieve a 2.5 mil or 63 micron depth in a single application. Or for easy math, 35+ times thicker than a Ceramic or Graphene Coating. This eliminates the need for counterproductive paint correction / grind off of your precious protective clear coat as is necessary with Ceramic and Graphene Coatings. Icon Rocklear only adds protection! Ceramic Coatings are 1-3 microns thick. Meaning one layer of Icon Rocklear is equal to 35+ layers of ceramic or graphene coatings.

That’s the great thing about Icon Rocklear. Just wash with any soap and say goodbye to harsh chemicals, clay bars, waxes, sealants, ceramic coatings, etc.

No, this one-stop coating will protect your vehicle for twenty years and possibly longer. But if you want to wax or put a ceramic topper on the vehicle you can (although it would dull the finish and we advise against it); you have to wait 30 days for the coating to cure fully.

No, unlike ceramics this coating will last minimum 20 years without return maintenance. It just requires one 18 month inspection to keep the warranty valid an that’s it! We usually recommend doing an inspection after the first 30 days, which is when the coating has fully cured.

Never use a touch / automatic car wash or the foam brush at the DIY car wash, as these can still scratch your vehicle’s coating even when fully cured. We recommend this regardless of whether you have Icon Rocklear, PPF, or anything else. Contaminants can be on these brushes from the previous vehicles that were washed there.

We always recommend washing the vehicle by hand (mitt & bucket method), but you can use a touchless car wash. Nothing is harder than Icon Rocklear, but you can still scratch it; nothing is scratch-proof – not even PPF!
